Tip of the Month

Identify yourself on the outer envelope

November, 2001
Given the current concerns about anthrax, you may wish to rethink acquisition campaigns that are sent out in a blank, non-descript or vague outer envelopes. If a donor cannot determine where the letter originated from, they are much more likely, given the current climate, to throw it away rather than open it out of curiosity. Also, bulky mailings offering a premium or "freemium" should clearly state the organization's name and what is inside to avoid ending up in the trash out of donor fear. If you have a recognizable name, now seems to be the time to capitalize on it.
